Kathmandu: In today's session of the House of Representatives (HoR), the major opposition party Nepali Congress (NC) urged for an unbiased investigation into allegations of cooperative fraud.
At the start of the meeting, NC lawmakers rose from their seats, prompting Speaker Devraj Ghimire to allow NC general secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa to address the assembly. Thapa raised concerns over the involvement of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs, Rabi Lamichhane, in disputes related to Surya Darshan and Suprim Cooperatives. Thapa questioned Lamichhane's suitability for office amidst these allegations.
Thapa emphasized the necessity of a fair investigation, stating, "It remains unclear whether he is guilty or not. He should undergo an investigation. However, allegations of cooperative misappropriation have been made against him. This raises doubts about whether the accused can ensure an impartial investigation."
Thapa called for an environment where cooperative victims could reclaim their deposits and urged Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' to work towards creating such an atmosphere.
While expressing the NC's desire for the smooth functioning of the House, Thapa awaited a swift response from the Prime Minister regarding their concerns.
In response, the Speaker expressed hope that the government would address the matter appropriately, recognizing its significance.
